A powerhouse of a forward, Gary Jones enjoyed a marvellous last half of the 2005.06 season and ended the campaign as the Mariners' top scorer with 17 goals. Jones initially made his name with the Tranmere side that regularly hit the headlines for their Cup exploits before a seven-figure transfer to Nottingham Forest in July 2000.

Jones struggled to settle at the City Ground and after just over two seasons with Forest he found himself back on the Wirral. Jones spent a further three seasons with Tranmere and ended his time with the club having scored 55 goals in 316 games.

Gary was a late arrival at Blundell Park last season but once he reached full fitness he really began to shine as he bagged goal after goal as Town narrowly missed out on promotion to League One.

The striker has also been utilised as a centre-half and midfielder throughout his career but Mariners' fans have seen him as the 'target man' style striker that the team has been lacking in recent times.
